The boys of fall manage to pull out another win against a big opponent, Wichita Heights. Bishop Carroll won 35-14, knocked off undefeated Heights, and clinched a share of the City League title. Zach Roth, Braden Howell, and Desmond Smith put points on the board with multiple touchdowns for both Roth and Smith. Eagles had a strong third quarter with 28 points scored in that quarter alone. However it took the offensive half a game to get going with only 7 points scored in the first half. Coach Nance told Flyer’s own Dillon Malone, that “we need to reduce interceptions” during a quick interview at halftime. Quarterback, Braden Howell, did just that with few interceptions in the second half. The defense also came out of the half strong with Luke Evan’s interception only a minute into the third quarter on the Falcons eight-yard line, which resulted in a touchdown by Roth the next play. The Golden Eagles hope to carry this momentum into next week’s much anticipated game against cross town rival, Kapaun Mt. Carmel.
The newly named student section, The Perch, came to compete as well. Several students hung a creative banner in front of the section saying “Eagles aren’t afraid of Heights.” And a football game would not be complete without the weekly pregame pump up by Carroll’s own Matt Dugan. Hopefully the devoted Bishop Carroll students can bring enthusiasm and eagle pride to the Holy War next week.
