Senior wide receiver and Flyer staffer Joe Rohleder is giving readers an inside look at each game. Today, he gives insight as the team goes on the road with a 1-0 record after last week’s thriller over Northwest.

Week 2: Salina South

Wow, last week’s win was so exciting. A lot of the energy has carried over into this week, but so has the soreness. Guys have been going to the trainer and taking ice baths to be in their best physical condition.  Coach Trail again this week has been preaching about mental toughness. He has been telling us to expect the soreness after games, so we must be tougher and not let it affect how we practice. Coach Trail also told us that this week is very important. Week two is when teams have the most growth. We’re working hard during practices to correct the mistakes from last week. A few changes to the offense were made so that Salina South has a harder time predicting our plays. A change we made was to our NASCAR and wristband plays which are meant to speed up the tempo of the game. The NASCAR plays are plays that are signaled by a number before the ball is snapped. For the wristband plays, all of the offense wears wristbands that have numbered plays making it so that we don’t have to remember so many plays. Making changes seem like it would be confusing and it was for the first day but then the plays just become natural. The team is ready to travel to Salina and beat the Cougars. It may be a bit of a drive from Carroll to Salina South but I know it will be a game worth watching.
