Journalism class reviewed the trailer for the classic-movie remake “Beauty and the Beast.” Here are a few opinions:

Molly Wilson: This great movie trailer has drama, fantasy, romance, and action. This remake of the animated Beauty and the Beast, explodes with curiosity. Although it tells you a good amount of background information, it leaves you wanting more. The music if suspenseful, almost in a creepy tone. A large part of what will happen is based on the rose. It was a key point to the trailer. A slogan the movie has is “Be Our Guest.” This is one of the best songs in the movie in the animated version, so it will probably be a strong point in the new movie also. The trailer makes me want it to come out sooner, yet it does not come out until 2017. I would highly recommend giving the movie a shot when it comes out because it will be a good action packed and romantic movie. I give the trailer an A.

Kate Martin: In this adventurous love story between a girl and a beast, we can clearly see that this more modern day movie replicates the older movie from the 1990’s with its own spin. We are left wondering if the beast and the beauty will end up together just as they do in the classic Disney movie, and whether or not the characters all find happy endings like most fairytales do. We see in the trailer that most of the details in the original movie remain the same, but we also see that there is a new sense and surprise and adventure arising. The trailer shows just enough detail for the audience to be intrigued to want to see the rest of the movie. I rate the trailer an A- because it displays the classic story that we all know and love.

5 points about the trailer…

  1. Emma Watson is perfect for the classic role of the Beauty of the tale, Belle.
  2. The Beast looks like a ram. He is portrayed in a completely weird, wrong way. He looks more like a pasture creature than the original Beast that I expect to see in the trailer.
  3. Mrs. Pot, Chip, and Cogsworth look completely different, and a little scary honestly. I imagined this movie being aimed at a younger audience, but watching the trailer made me see it as more of an older audience film. I was disappointed in the way they decided to portray these characters.
  4. The classic scenes, such as Belle and Beast walking towards each other in the dancing scene, are still present, along with many other iconic scenes. However, the trailer revealed quite a bit of the plot and a majority of every major scene, so I’d say the trailer wasn’t very good in leaving you hanging, wanting to see more.
  5. Based on the trailer, I would give this movie a B-. I went into watching the trailer expecting something amazing, and was left with a sorry excuse for a trailer. I would say however that I would recommend seeing it because sometimes the trailer is misleading. – Julia Iseman
