Sheriff Easter warned students about alcohol and drug abuse at an all-school assembly Wednesday.

Easter emphasized the dangers of methamphetamine use.

“It fries your brain,” he said. “It eats you from the inside out. It will ruin your life. It will ruin your family’s life.”

Using a story about a teen recently paralyzed in a drinking and driving accident, Easter warned students to avoid taking chances.

“You think you’re invincible. You think nothing can happen to you – it can. I’ve seen it for 26 years,” he said.

Students were mostly silent during the 45-minute speech.

“The speech was very informative and blunt, which is necessary to get across the truth of the damage and alcohol abuse causes,” junior Caroline Buchanan said.

Added junior Sydney Dahlgren, “Sheriff Easter gave good insight and statistics about the negative effects of drug and alcohol abuse that I had not heard before.”
