The morning of Jan. 11 the number of absent students was 127 and the number of students tardy was 272. This number is very different then the norm of about 50 absent and 15 tardy.

This high number of students absent and tardy was caused by rain that froze, turning the roads to a sheet of ice and making it dangerous for students to drive to school. Goddard, Valley Center, and Maize school districts all cancelled school. However, USD 259 and the Wichita Diocese had school as scheduled.
