Senior Farewell Mass 2017
May 22, 2017
A Bishop Carroll tradition unlike any other, the Senior Farewell Mass is an emotional tribute to the graduating class who has contributed so much to the place we all call home. From the opening song, with the green and gold caps slowly filling the Activity Complex, to inspiring speeches from this year’s valedictorian and salutatorian, the day Bishop Carroll bid its final farewell to the graduating class of 2017, did not fail to bring stir up emotions in all students, friends, and family members present.
One of the most memorable parts of this year’s mass, was senior class president Christine Moran’s goodbye speech. Moran held back tears as she thanked her class for the memories and reminded them that no matter where they go, one thing will always unite them. “Whatever path you choose to go through in life, always remember that God is waiting for you in the end with His arms wide open, ready for you to come home.” Moran said.
The uniqueness of our Bishop Carroll’s incorporation of faith is something Fr. Sam Brand finds special about this farewell tradition as well. “What I love most is that even though this is the last time every one of these seniors will go to mass together, they still have the opportunity to take this same sacrament with them as they all part ways,” Fr. Brand said.
Although encouraged by the opportunity to take the familiarity of their faith with them as they move on, this final farewell was still a difficult day for many of the graduates. “Being honored for my academics was awesome, but I’d trade every award if it meant I didn’t have to say goodbye to everyone,” said salutatorian Jeffery Birch.
