These are a few of the donuts that the students were frying. Each table had to take turns to make their donuts because there was only one deep fryer.

Class: Foods I

Teacher: Mrs. May

What they’re doing: The students in Foods I were making biscuit donuts. They are learning how to use the deep fat fryer. They all got to fry and make their own little donut holes from cut up biscuit dough. Afterwards, they dipped the fried doughnut into some sugar and cinnamon. They also got to pair that with a cup of hot chocolate that Mrs. May made for them.

Mrs. May says: “Making the fried biscuit donuts are great to make because it’s fast and easy to make, but more enjoyable since it’s a cold day.”

Malone Sullivan says: “We’re learning how to use the fryer and were making little donuts. What I didn’t like about this lab was that it got my hands dirty.”

Carlie Pracht says: “Today, we made donut holes out of biscuits. My favorite part is actually getting to eat them!”

Josephy Nguyen Wrap Up: I think this was a cool assignment because the students got to use a fryer and I think that not very many of them have ever used one, so it was a good learning experience. When I was taking the pictures it looked like the students were really having fun and seemed to really enjoy the donuts and hot chocolate.

Malone is taking the now finished donuts out of the fryer. She’s laughing because she accidentally dropped one.

This was after all of the prep work and Carlie is about to take her first bite into the donut.
