Summer Memories

Makayla Ehmke

Summer is decidedly my favorite time of the year- no school, warm weather, vacations, and swimming. I mean, what’s not to like? Every summer is a new adventure, and every single one is memorable in a unique way.

I remember the summer before first grade- the feeling of the warm sun on my shoulders and the chalk in my hand. I remember the sound of my cousins laughing beside me.

The summer before second grade was when I first started swimming competitively. It’s a summer I’ll never forget. If I hadn’t started swimming then, I wouldn’t be doing something I love now. I remember the feeling of the cold water on my feet and the sound of my dad urging me to get in the water.

This summer was just as memorable. I went to Arkansas and spent two weeks there staying in my grandparent’s house on Beaver Lake. It wasn’t the warmest part of the summer. In fact, it was actually rainy and cold the whole time I was there, but that’s not what I’m going to remember in ten years, I’m going to remember the fun I had getting to know my grandparents better.

School’s actually a lot like summer in a way, each and every year I make new memories that I know I’m going to remember for the rest of my life. I’m sad summer is over, but I’m excited for the memories I’m going to make.
