College

33.5 percent of college students, who attended a public college, fail to graduate in the first four years of their college career. So several private colleges are beginning to offer students a free year of tuition in order to help them graduate. If a student failed to graduate in the ‘typical’ four years, the fifth year will be paid for. The goal is to get the students “in and out” of the school and to change the students mind set from the beginning into graduating in four years. From a future college student’s perspective, I don’t understand why a student would cram all the required hours into four years when he or she could spread out their classes and cause themselves less stress. I could see that many students would take advantage of this change to either enjoy another year of the college life or having the luxury of going to school for free. On the other hand, this offer would benefit many students who have a tougher time with school and need to space out their schedule. The colleges who are offering this service are doing a large favor to many people and at the end of the day would benefit the average American college student.
