The election process for who will be the president and vice president of the school is changing so that the best candidate is selected and the vote isn’t just a “popularity contest,” according to Ms. Johnsen, coordinator of student activities.

Instead of being elected by popular vote alone, the president and vice president will be chosen by 50 percent by popular vote and 50 percent by the selection of the teacher deans. The candidates will have to fill out an application and be interviewed by the deans, Ms. Johnsen, and Mr. Schuckman. Also, candidates will have to give speeches in front of the freshmen, sophomores, and juniors after mass on April 20.

In order to run for president, the student had to have been on executive StuCo this year. There are only four students who qualify and all four are running. The students running are Anna Schmidt, Chloe Charles, Julia Howey, and Jackson Oxler.

Ms. Johnsen said she has “no doubt” that the winner among those four will be a good leader for the school next year when it changes to the community system.

“They understand all of the responsibilities and they know that the expectations are high. They’ve worked hard – I’ve been very demanding,” said Ms. Johnsen.

Unlike previous years where students would run for either president or vice president, this year they will run only for president. The first place winner will be president and the second place winner will be vice president.
